Hk Mk23 Review - Good afternoon everyone and welcome back to TFB's Silencer Saturday brought to you by Yankee Hill Machine, makers of the YHM R9 multi-caliber suppressor. Last week we noted our own James Reeves on his flawed analysis of rifle suppression calibers. Heckler & Koch Mark 23 (MK 23) Pistol and Knight's Armament MK23 Suppressor: This week we look at the most popular gun/suppressor combination. Let's see why the H&K and KAC MK23 setup is a must-have for silencer fans.

With all the history and legend surrounding the USSOCOM MK23 (the official designation for the complete pistol / aiming device / suppressor kit), there isn't much that hasn't been mentioned ad nauseam. Recently, our own Nick C. achieved his own life goals in reviewing the MK23 with laser beams and silencers. And Austin just partnered with the 1911 Syndicate for a cool video. I've included links to both reviews, the MK23 wiki page, videos, and other references for you to check out at your leisure.

Not that you're a huge Metal Gear Solid fan (I've played it, not very well), the local H&K Pistol Club chapter president (that membership fee), or a fan of the .45 ACP cartridge (the 9mm is a real pistol). Raju), I never thought much of the H&K MARK 23. Until now. As we approach the 200th episode of Silencer Saturday, I decided that having the H&K and KAC MK23 package was a must. And I haven't been this excited about a new gun and suppressor in a long time.

Both the MARK 23 pistol and the KAC MK23 suppressor are in very limited supply and are not "stocking-dealer" type items. The pistol took about six months to ship from Germany to the US, and I paid MSRP for the suppressor to avoid the estimated 9-12 month manufacturing window. If there are first-world problems, it's the "inside of my Lambo doesn't match the outside of my summer house" equivalent of guns.

I've used the word world-class as a descriptor before, but the H&K and KAC MK23 is truly the pinnacle of power and durability. Featuring match grade out-of-the-box and insane firing schedules, the MK23 sets a standard that only other pistols and suppressors can meet.

During H&K MK23 development/test testing, the MK 23 pistols met the most stringent operational and accuracy requirements not demanded for a combat handgun. MK 23 pistols achieve match-grade accuracy of less than 2.5-inch maximum extreme spread in 5-round shot groups at 25 meters with service ammunition. Endurance testing showed a service life of 30,000 rounds of +P ammunition without component failure, with an additional 30,000 rounds verified on the slide and frame. To meet the reliability requirement, the pistol must show at least 2,000 rounds between stops (MRBS) with M1911 ball and +P ammunition. The minimum MRBS scored in the exam is 6,027 and the maximum is 15,122. From more than 450 accurate test firings from a perfect firing fixture, the MK 23 pistols exceeded the government requirement, averaging 1.44 inches, with 65 groups under one inch. There are four groups of .5 inches with 5 rounds through the same hole! This includes firing with and without a sound/flash suppressor attached. All three pistols were tested for accuracy after firing more than 30,000 rounds, the specified service life of the pistol, and still achieved the pistol's new required accuracy. A new design feature, a high-temperature rubber O-ring on the barrel, seals the barrel of the slide until it opens, leading to this remarkable achievement. The O-ring lasts over 20,000 rounds and can be replaced by the operator without tools in seconds. To meet operational environmental requirements, the pistol is tested to operate at +140 and -250 F, submerged in salt water, exposed to surf, salt-fog, sand-dust, mud, unlubricated and various fouled environments. A special marine surface coating protects the pistol from corrosion in all these operational environments.

If you're asking why anyone would need a pistol and suppressor to work at these levels, you're asking the wrong questions. This gun and suppressor setup is a piece of history that deserves recognition for its design and engineering achievements. Plus, it's cool as hell.

The only gun/suppressor combinations that come close are the H&K MP5SD, MK12 SPR with Allen Engineering AEM5, MAC 10 with Sionics suppressor and Beretta pistol with slide lock, and KAC Hush Puppy. A dead giveaway is the dimples on the KAC MK23, which are also found on their other suppressors like the KAC MP5 and MP5SD. Whether the H&K MK23 with KAC suppressor seen in movies, TV shows, and video games is due to technical skill or a notable form factor is unknown. But I'm willing to bet that Hollywood helped sell more MK23 pistols than any SOCOM operator.

One of my favorite slogans that applies perfectly to MK23 - there is no free lunch. If you want match-grade accuracy, multi-conflict reliability and bombproof construction, it's worth the cost. Weighing 3.5 pounds unloaded and about an inch and a half tall, the MK23 is a beast of a system. Nothing but the SHAQ accessory will hold the H&K MK23. And at $2,500 for the pistol and ~$1,500 for the suppressor, the package is expensive before adding the light/laser, ammo, holster, and other related accessories.

Mark offers this accuracy without the need for hand-assembled parts common to custom-built pistols costing $23,000. One of the most thoroughly tested handguns in history, the MK23/Mark 23 project began in 1991 when HK began development for the US Special Operations Command, the organization that oversees the operations of America's most elite military units, including the Navy SEALs. the army special strength. On May 1, 1996, the first HK MK 23 pistols were delivered to the U.S. Special Operations Command for operational expansion, the MK 23 was the first caliber .45 ACP pistol to enter American military service since the venerable government Model 1911A1. During testing, the MK 23 pistols met the most stringent operational and accuracy requirements not demanded of a combat handgun. Endurance testing shows a service life of 30,000 rounds of +P ammunition. To meet the reliability requirement, the pistol must show at least 2,000 rounds between stops (MRBS) with M1911 ball and +P ammunition. All pistols exceeded 2000 MRBS with an average of 6000 MRBS. In more than 450 accuracy test shots from an accurate firing range of 25 meters, the MK 23 pistols exceeded the government requirement, averaging 1.44 inches, with 65 groups per inch. There are four groups of .5 inches, 5 rounds going through the same hole!

The current batch of KAC suppressors are dually identified as the MK23/USP models. Be careful when purchasing a KAC pistol suppressor, the MK23's thread pitch is M16x1 RH while the USP Tactical barrels are M16X1 LH threaded. Booster assemblies are available for purchase on a limited basis, but are expensive, at just over $600.

The baffle design is unique compared to the current cone/k baffle trend. The KAC MK23 suppressor canister appears to be divided into sections with high humps centered and parallel to the line.

The only user visible part of the KAC MK23 suppressor is the o-ring on the piston.

My main concern about pulling the trigger on this duo for the first time is managing expectations. If the anticipation and construction of such an iconic setup is too much, the results can be disappointing. Fortunately, this is not the case - the MARK 23 with the KAC suppressor advantage built for this gun is now one of the coolest gun combos I own. No, it's not a silent pistol suppressor, but it is quiet. You can almost feel the steel ringing at 50 yards with 230 grains per round.

The double action trigger pull is long and deep, but very smooth. And an action pull is heavenly smooth. The size and weight of this combo makes recoil manageable, allowing for fast followup shots. I have the M16x1 RH piston for the SilencerCo Octane 45HD and we will be doing a head to head comparison in the coming weeks (relax, I've only had the pistol for two days).

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to clean up the Museum of Natural History and rescue all the hostages. And by "museum" I mean a barn and by "captives" I mean a lawnmower.

The Heckler and Koch Mark 23 may be the best production handgun ever made: match-grade accuracy, unmatched reliability, and size as lethal as they shoot. is rare.
