The Heckler & Koch VP9 (known as the SFP9 in Europe and Canada) is a bolt-action, polymer-framed semi-automatic pistol. The vice in the name refers to the Volkspistole, meaning "people's pistol".

According to manufacturer Heckler & Koch (HK), the pistol was in development for more than four years before its release in June 2014.
Originally designed at the request of the Bavarian State Police to replace the HK P7 due to the HK's long history with assault pistols. So they decided to improve their product range with a newly designed Striker system. This gives their pistols a single stage trigger feel with a clean break.
The original name of the pistol was "P30X" as it was essentially a derivative of the Heckler & Koch P30 pistol.
